Eminem Becomes Most 'Liked' Living Artist On Facebook

Eminem Becomes Most 'Liked' Living Artist On Facebook

Here is a story about Hip Hop Artist Eminem, who is currently the most liked living person on facebook. Im sure all us "Facebookers" are familiar with the "like" feature. However if your one of those people who just came out from under your rock, the "like" button is a way for people to gauge popularity of all sorts of content on Facebook. With that being said Eminem's artist page is the most liked of any living person in entertainment. The man has racked up 28.8 million likes, only falling behind the late Great king of pop Michael Jackson as the most liked person on the social media juggernaut, Facebook.com. I personally find this news awesome, and ironic at the same time. Being a big hip hop fan i love Eminem, and i believe he will go down as one of the best not only in Rap but in music. However Eminem was not always this beloved. Em received a lot of black lash for his music in the later part of the 90's. People found his obscene lyrics, and graphic music videos very offensive. Knowing this about his past I thought it to be very ironic that Marshall would one day be the most liked person in the world since one could argue Trends of Facebook now Reflect the worlds views. Another reason why i picked this article is that it shows how social media is very much connected to music and other forms of media.

User Control

This is an article I had to read for Pop Culture called the Paradox of User Control by Daniel Palmer. The article argues that "participatory media" and the convenience of the Internet gives an illusion of control to users. I think that Palmer makes really interesting points about Capitalism and about individualism and technology in the article.

Katie Couric explains the Internet

In class we've talked a lot about the beginning of the internet and social networks. Well check out how Katie Couric explains the internet in 1994. Apparently footage never aired - but it doesn't really matter because someone put it on youtube for all to see.
It's amazing to me how quickly the Internet has become so integrated in everything we do that 15 years ago it was impossible to explain what it is.

How you would explain the Internet to Katie Couric in 1994.

More on Facebook & Privacy

I wanted to point you in the direction of this article on Salon: Government Employer asks man for Facebook Login during Job Interview. Read it and consider the following: When does a background check become an invasion of privacy? What would you do if an employer asked for your login and password for your Facebook account? For your email account?

Facebook car?

If you were the first of a million to become a facebook fan of Porsche, you could have had your name written on a car. It's an interesting use of facebook for social marketing, and it's just very cool.

all things philly.

Hello all. So i too decided to change my blog before the semester officially takes off. I love photography but idea of writing about it every week just didn't sit right. So, i picked something I thought would not only be more interesting to me but to everyone in the class as well.

Philly. We live here and we study here, why not...

Check it out at www.prettyfigs.blogspot.com and stay up to date with fun things going on.

B.K. Friendly- "Swing This Way" Ft. Mont Brown (Music Video)

Here is a video from my good Friend B.K. The song is called Swing this way and it Features Mont Brown, another Philly Native. These two bled together their talents to create a song with with awesome verses and a catchy hook. B.K has been in the mix with music for a long time now. He was once the front man for the band "Red is recovery" and has now dived into the world of hip hop. B.K has infused his great voice and lyrical content to create his own unique lane in the world of rap.

post 1. hey guys, Technically this is my second post on this blog but because of previous technical difficulties i think this will be the first post that will actually appear on the class wall. I will make up for the lost post however.
I am making a blog with the basic theme of politics. I will not necessarily make blunt political statements or opinions but rather raise questions or issues that are currently be discussed in the media that could be a topic of conversation or contraversy. Please weigh in your thoughts.

post 2. Much discussion has come about the recent florida judge overturning a part of the healthcare bill deeming it "Unconstitutional" do you agree with any or part of the healthcare reform? would you change anything about it? or would do you see any part of the new bill to be unconstitutional?

I thought that this SuperBowl commercial was really interesting in a few different aspects; patriotism, audience, choice of actor....what did everyone else think?

Breaking down Social Network Communiques

Check out this Wired article, Clive Thompson on Secret Messages in the Digital Age.  It explores how teens often encode messages within messages posted on social network(ing) websites. danah boyd calls this act social steganography. Social steganography is one example of how people negotiate their relationship with digital media.

An excerpt: "Obviously, one could regard the emergence of youth steganography as yet more depressing evidence of how dangerously overcomplex the web has made teens’ lives. But frankly, I’m kind of awed by the rhetorical sophistication of today’s teens. They are basically required to live in public (you try maintaining friendships without an online presence), but they crave some privacy, too. So they’ve taught themselves to hack language. They hack systems, as well: Boyd has also found teenagers who “deactivate” their Facebook account when they log off so nobody can see their stuff or post comments. Then they “reactivate” it when they want to go back online and interact with friends. Presto: They create a virtual club where they control the operating hours. Color me impressed."

What is your opinion of social steganography? Is it real? Relevant?

Growing Up

http://cbellissimo.blogspot.com/

Hey guys...the topic I decided to cover is "college." Sounds pretty broad but my goals are to start a conversation that involves advice to those entering college, applying to grad schools, and about to enter the "real world" in a not so great economy. I hope to provoke conversation about "what a college degree means in this day and age," and how we can make the best of our time and money spent on higher education! -Courtney Bellissimo
