My recent trip to Ireland introduced me to the Social Networking Site Bebo. It is really popular in the U.K. and has recently joined up with Facebook, I don't think it has come up in our discussions? It has online gaming, messaging, picture adds, wall posts; advertised as "a popular social networking site which connects you to everyone and everything you care about."

Just thought it was interesting to see if anyone in the U.S. is familiar with it...

  1. A lot of other countries have their own online social networks. Germany, for example, has StudiVZ. Apparently Facebook actually sued them for copying aspects of the Facebook design.

  2. After reading this post I actually went to explore Bebo and found that it is pretty similar to Facebook. This makes me think that perhaps social media sites that are being developed prior to Facebook model their sites off of Facebook.
While I haven't heard of Bebo around any communities I participate in, I have found that Facebook actually extends far past the US. For instance, when I stayed in Germany two summers ago, Facebook was still the most popular social networking site.
