post 1. hey guys, Technically this is my second post on this blog but because of previous technical difficulties i think this will be the first post that will actually appear on the class wall. I will make up for the lost post however.
I am making a blog with the basic theme of politics. I will not necessarily make blunt political statements or opinions but rather raise questions or issues that are currently be discussed in the media that could be a topic of conversation or contraversy. Please weigh in your thoughts.
post 2. Much discussion has come about the recent florida judge overturning a part of the healthcare bill deeming it "Unconstitutional" do you agree with any or part of the healthcare reform? would you change anything about it? or would do you see any part of the new bill to be unconstitutional?

Breaking down Social Network Communiques
Check out this Wired article, Clive Thompson on Secret Messages in the Digital Age. It explores how teens often encode messages within messages posted on social network(ing) websites. danah boyd calls this act social steganography. Social steganography is one example of how people negotiate their relationship with digital media.
An excerpt: "Obviously, one could regard the emergence of youth steganography as yet more depressing evidence of how dangerously overcomplex the web has made teens’ lives. But frankly, I’m kind of awed by the rhetorical sophistication of today’s teens. They are basically required to live in public (you try maintaining friendships without an online presence), but they crave some privacy, too. So they’ve taught themselves to hack language. They hack systems, as well: Boyd has also found teenagers who “deactivate” their Facebook account when they log off so nobody can see their stuff or post comments. Then they “reactivate” it when they want to go back online and interact with friends. Presto: They create a virtual club where they control the operating hours. Color me impressed."

Sounds pretty broad but my goals are to start a conversation that involves advice to those entering college, applying to grad schools, and about to enter the "real world" in a not so great economy. I hope to provoke conversation about "what a college degree means in this day and age," and how we can make the best of our time and money spent on higher education! -Courtney Bellissimo

College Eats
Hi class! This semester I am going to blog about cooking. But, I don't want it to be like your typical cooking show. I would like to make it specific to college students (and what we can afford).
