Cyber Monday

Today before class cyber monday was brought up and some people were not aware of what it was. For those of you who don't know what it is, it is a basically like black friday but for the internet. I read an article on yahoo this past weekend that explained the details of the event and why it came to be. Just like black friday, most sites offer extreme mark downs on most of their products and some coupons. The reason I am linking it to class is because some of the sites are offering their coupons and promotional codes via twitter, facebook and other social media sites. The only way to receive the best prices are through these sites. Therefore, a traditional shopping event such as black friday is now turning into an online event with extra discount perks via social media.

  1. This is very interesting to me. I didn't know everything about it, but i knew that the internet offers the same sales as black Friday. This is one of the smartest strategies that advertisers have come up with because it allows the homebodies who hate going out to the stores, to shop from their living room couches. the internet offering these same discounts online will allow for greater sales. This is a great example of an online marketing tool.

  2. I wonder if Cyber Monday will ever have the same rabid following as Black Friday? Contrary to the hopes of online marketers I find it hard to believe it would. Many people partake in Black Friday events just for the sensation, not buying anything at all. It's the thrill of waking up early and competing with other shoppers and maybe lucking out big time that appeal to so many people. I don't think these feelings can ever be translated to the online world. Cyber Monday seems to me like a cheap ploy for online retailers to jump on the shopping super event band wagon.

  3. I also had no idea what Cyber Monday was! I wish I would have though :) It just goes to show how technology has evolved so much. Something so traditional, as Black Friday shopping, has also become accessible online. I am not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Good in that Cyber Monday is a lot easier ... no long lines or hassles (people have died before with the Black Friday craze) and no anticipation or waiting/camping outside for hours upon hours for that computer or TV. However, it just goes to show that our generation can be a bit lazy and doesn't care much about traditions. Black Friday is about the excitement and chaos. I feel as though Cyber Monday is just an easy way to save money and lazily order things online. Good concept however.

  4. I didn't know what Cyber Monday was...it kind of reminds me of something dirty don't ask me why! But I really like the idea of it. So if people don't get a chance to get out of the house Friday, or don't want to leave the house Friday because it's so busy out, they can buy stuff from their homes Monday and still receive discounts. That's awesome, and a great way to promote your business. I might have to partake in that next year.
