While the Kinect is an amazing piece of technology, I feel as though it is important to remind everyone that years ago Play Station release the 'eye toy'- you had to use only your body to play the games. Now, clearly it wasn't sophisticated enough to detect your skeleton, and therefore anyone moving in the background did interrupt the game. But I think the fact that this improved piece is thought to improve social skills by allowing kids to interact- referring back to our class discussion on the topic- highlights the importance of context; if a piece of technology is introduced before it can be used properly, it wont be fully appreciated. i believe the eye toy was released before its time and that's why it did not have nearly the anticipation the Kinect does.
That's a good point, and with kinect being introduced at the right time I think it will be a success. And I know in class we were discussing how it was just like Wii but I didn't agree with them on that. I have a Wii and I know you can just sit there and as long as you flick your wrist the sensor picks it up so you don't actually have to be active in all of the activities in order to play. With kinect you do.
