They believe that instead of using these sites and accessories to their benefit they are abusing them and not using other outlets and sources when trying to find information and gain knowledge.
Although I am a part of the generation they are talking about in the article, I kind of agree with them in that it is making kids lazier and they are abusing the access they have to information. Kids are not using the information to there advantage they are using it more so for pleasure. Kids no longer speak face to face or even have phone calls. They communicate mostly threw online outlets or text messages.
In addition, not only do they communicate online but that has become the place where they gather. Instead of going to the mall or to the park kids will go online from their home computer and never have to leave the house to gather with friends.
I do think that the technology advances are a good thing and they can help us out I just think they need to be used in the proper manner and need not be abused. If they are used properly technology is the best thing we have going for us. It is only when it is abused and misused that it becomes a danger.
I feel that we should take advantage of technology as far as we need but not to the extent of not being social anymore with friends. I agree that technology is making us lazy by means of being capable of doing almost anything online.
ReplyDeleteI do partially agree with the argument they pose but I feel like they aren't giving technology enough credit for its usefulness and the wealth of information made accessible because of it. Some people utilize these things and become lazy, but what about those people who now have so much more freetime and are more productive because they no longer have to work as hard to find certain information through traditional methods
ReplyDeleteI can definitely see the argument that our generation is getting "stupid" because we are so caught up in technology. But, I would very quickly counter that our generation and those younger than us are actually very, very smart. We are able to immediately adapt to all forms of technology and understand them as if it's intuitive and natural. The way the world is functioning and continuing to evolve, this is the definition of "smart." These abilities will be what takes us to places that no one before us has been able to experience. With all good things come drawbacks though, so for every brilliant user of technology we have 10 kids who have no idea how to talk to people because they're glued to the computer screen. It's a shame.
