Well, I can't say I didn't expect it.
Google's version of a social networking site, called Google Circle's is expected to be released sometime this May.
So what does Google Circles have that Facebook doesn't?
Well first, Google promises a more private experience than any other social networking site existing. It also allowed members to filter which content is shown, which unlike Facebook will give ease to many users who are worried about privacy infringements.
A blog entitled Read/WriteWeb stated that Chris Messina, the creator of social networking sites, had participated in the creation of Google Circles. Although Google has refused to comment on any rumors of starting a social networking site. Google has tried its hand in the social networking game before, and failed with both Google Buzz and Orkut, so the question now is whether Google Circles will be successful.
What do you think? Could Google Circles be successful? More than Facebook? Would you have an account?
I'm sure it could have some success, but not as much as Facebook. I don't see people wanting to migrate to an entirely new social networking site. People were willing to switch from myspace to facebook, but Facebook has such a large footprint that Google Circles may fizzle out after a while.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion this google social networking site will not nearly prevail on top over Facebook. Facebook has so many users that have been in part since around the beginning that will stick to that site. If anything Google circles will get users, but not nearly as much as facebook. The main people i think will use this are the people that do not/ or deleted their facebook page.
ReplyDeleteI think that the only way people will make a switch from facebook is if they find something that they think is better. People only switched to myspace because its was better than friendster. The same thing happened with myspace and facebook. If Google Circles can prove that they have something facebook doesn't, maybe people will switch, or maybe- like some with myspace, they'll have an account with both.
