pandora is funny.

http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2011/05/pandora-radio-adds-comedy-stations.html

It now appears that Pandora will slowly become a place where comedy acts can go to be discovered. I think this is a great idea to have a music station on Pandora. Music and comedy are two of my favorite things and now i can go to one source to tap both of them. I only hope that Pandora does not keep expanding to other areas. I believe it should be for entertainment purposes only.

Apple beats out Google.

http://www.tipb.com/2011/05/09/apple-beats-google-worlds-valuable-brand/

Finally Apple has risen to the top. Google has been the most successful franchise in the technological world for several years now. I can recall when owning any apple product especially a macbook was considered a very "artsy" "alternative" thing to do. Steve jobbs continues to produce products that work the best and everyone loves. It's amazing to believe that Apple actually spends the least on Advertising compared to it's many competitors. The most ironic part about this article is i used Google to search to Apple. Ha!

Super Fans on Twitter

One of the 4 Creative Social Marketing Campaigns included Making a Classic Social. Well, a super fan of Harry Potter has taken this to a new extreme. He has created a fictitious twitter account taking on the persona of Lord Voldermort. He has over 200,000 followers and recently won a "Shorty Award" (twitter awards for content under 140 characters) for his creative tweets.

And over the past few weeks I've seen more and more of these characters popping up on twitter. People are becoming brand activists and taking action to promote what they like.

Awesome video on the power Fb had on connecting victims of the recent tornados.

Here is a video that connects the victims of the recent tornados in the mid west. A lady by the name of Patty Bullion started a Facebook page where people post pictures of items found so that people can claim the lost items that were launched great distances by the tornados. Stories like this show us all the power of connectivity Facebook has.

Really Mom, I'm OK

A post to comfort Moms on Mother's Day.

We talked a lot this semester about how technology keeps us connected. We also talked about privacy issues and sites like spokeo.com that give away valuable personal information. And how Facebook is an issue for parents with young teens. But what if there was now a way for parents to track their kids and their whereabouts (!?!?). This new app for phones allows parents to check where their kids are - this ad is equally creepy.

The one positive about this app is that it is a private setting and you don't have to deal with the public social networks - like FourSquare - knowing where you are.

What do you think? Will it catch on? And would kids really use the app?

Cool Osama binladin twitter visual

I found a pretty cool visual on the tweets about Osama Binladin's death on twitter. This picture shows the connections between the people who originally broke the news on twitter. This picture really shows the scale on how people are connected on twitter

Thor

I just found it interesting how all marvel comic movies make so much money. I was readign about the new movie Thor, and it made 66 million its first weekend, beating everything else. I think we are going to come to an age of all marvel comic movies. At least if they keep making the companies this much money.

Big news on Twitter

The recent news of Osama Bin Laden's death has caused a lot of activity on Twitter. The news was actually broken on Twitter before President Obama adressed the nation on TV. Once the address did begin, Twitter was operating at 4,000 tweets per second.

Here's the article showing some of the Twitter posts

China's Social Network

Here is a interesting story about China's number one social network site. What makes this interesting is that this site titled Renren is the only social net work site allowed in china. The article explains plans for the new price on buying shares for the new site. However, the real reason I posted this is because i think this site is going to have real power one day. China has enormous reach with its 1.3 billion population. This site has the potential to become the top social net work site in user-ship. So tell me, do you think a site like this could surpass facebook someday?

The Power of New media and social media

The past couple days have been triumphant for Us citizens, especially for those who were directly affected by the 911 attacks. As the much of the world now knows, Osama Bin Landen has finally disposed of, and it seems it only took minutes for the news to spread like wild fire. Here is a video from Sunday night's Phillies vs Mets game. This video shows fans receiving the news of Bin Laden's death from their cell phones, which leads into mass celebration in the stands. This video shows us all how fast we now get our information. In the past these fans would have had to wait until they got home to find out the news of Bin Laden's death.

Fight Back Against Youtube Takedowns

Have you ever gone to youtube to look for your favorite music video or a certain part to a movie, and you click on the video only to see a message saying that the video has been removed due to copyright laws? Yeah, I hate it too, and so does this guy, who offers a method to fight back against copyright takedowns. He talks about some things that were mentioned in class so, enjoy.

delco facedown- whole new level of sharing images and socializing!

(my twelve year old sister)

(picture from the site)

This site is insane- not only because it is a blog of people laying facedown in weird situations, but because it started in my neighborhood and is now international. Kids from all over the world post pictures for competetions on the site- all involving laying somewhere facedown. We had some crazy fads when I was in school, but social media definelty has brought kids ideas to a whole new level!

people search

Check out this site- its a people search engine.
When I typed in my name, my location, some relatives, and age came up with a map highlighting where I live!!!

Apparently, if you join the page you can have access to pretty much someones entire life (criminal history, phone number...)

I had a guest speaker in my Senior Seminar class that says he does searches on people he hires- he pays a company that can look at private facebook accounts. My teacher also said she searched herself and there was false information posted, which could possibly be even more harmful then someone gaining access to your real info!

more articles about privacy and phone use

two more links on articles about Privacy- crazy how much information our phones have about us and can be accessed by law enforcement and companies!

Good news for gamers!

Nintendo is readying the next generation of the Wii console for 2012. The Wii has already chaged the way we play games and the next Wii may change that even more.

The console will apparently be displayed at the next Electronic Entertainment Expo starting June 7th. It is said to utilize the same motion controls but, according to speculation, these will be hand held touch screens.

Here is a link about the announcement.
