Here is a story about Hip Hop Artist Eminem, who is currently the most liked living person on facebook. Im sure all us "Facebookers" are familiar with the "like" feature. However if your one of those people who just came out from under your rock, the "like" button is a way for people to gauge popularity of all sorts of content on Facebook. With that being said Eminem's artist page is the most liked of any living person in entertainment. The man has racked up 28.8 million likes, only falling behind the late Great king of pop Michael Jackson as the most liked person on the social media juggernaut, Facebook.com. I personally find this news awesome, and ironic at the same time. Being a big hip hop fan i love Eminem, and i believe he will go down as one of the best not only in Rap but in music. However Eminem was not always this beloved. Em received a lot of black lash for his music in the later part of the 90's. People found his obscene lyrics, and graphic music videos very offensive. Knowing this about his past I thought it to be very ironic that Marshall would one day be the most liked person in the world since one could argue Trends of Facebook now Reflect the worlds views. Another reason why i picked this article is that it shows how social media is very much connected to music and other forms of media.
Hey Nick,
ReplyDeleteThis is a great post, in its thoughtful consideration of the 'Liking' of Eminem. Social media is so deeply tied to music culture and industry. It is quite notable to be the most 'Liked' musician/entertainer alive, particularly as you point out, after being the target of such distain. I wonder if we could elaborate on what it means to be, in this sense, number one? What do all of these 'Likes' add up to in the real world? Great post.
(One thing: Please watch grammar/writing/punctuation/capitalization)
Interestingly enough, Eminem "doesn't know how to use a computer." There's something to be said about being 'number one' on a site like facebook while also proclaiming technological incompetence. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1644231/eminem-weighs-on-kanye-westtaylor-swift-vma-incident.jhtml
