A bug was spread across the globe. Even politicians in the WHite House and other nations were affected by these hackers. Some of the links were to porn sites (wow).
So there is obviously a security flaw within Twitter. I don't believe those working at Twitter will be able to patch up this whole for the safety of their users. People put up very personal information that can be put into jeopardy very quickly and easily. Some people use technology to document their lives and we must understand that sites like this aren't reliable nor permanent.
The sad part is that people, including myself, will continue using the social network site to our liking, regardless of the holes in security.
Here's a link to the news broadcast concerning this hacking.
I don't use twitter and I probably never will. But I agree with the fact that people put too much information online. For example, if your going on vacation and you post it, people know that your not home. Your pretty much inviting people into your house to steal stuff. And apparently there is a thing that tells your location. That is quite dangerous in the same way the other is. People should really monitor what they say online.
ReplyDeleteI also do not use Twitter but find this very interesting. People are so accustomed to posting their lives on the web, that they often do not consider the consequences. They live behind "glass walls," thinking that only an intended audience can view their lives; in reality, social networks can be seen by a larger audience. This hacking situation just goes to show that technology is not as perfect as we believe it to be. There can always be a glitch in the system, and if we are not careful we can be jeopardized.
ReplyDeleteI have a twitter account, clearly I am not important enough to get it hacked, nor do I use it that much. It is amazing what people post to twitter and it is more amazing to me the fact that I find myself reading it. Twitter, like the facebook news feed is a world of useless information that we would all be better off not seeing for the most part. Yes there is information on events and important information but twitter for the most part is just a way for terrible acts like rapper Souljaboytellem to gain unneeded attention.
