http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2011/05/pandora-radio-adds-comedy-stations.html
It now appears that Pandora will slowly become a place where comedy acts can go to be discovered. I think this is a great idea to have a music station on Pandora. Music and comedy are two of my favorite things and now i can go to one source to tap both of them. I only hope that Pandora does not keep expanding to other areas. I believe it should be for entertainment purposes only.

Apple beats out Google.
http://www.tipb.com/2011/05/09/apple-beats-google-worlds-valuable-brand/
Finally Apple has risen to the top. Google has been the most successful franchise in the technological world for several years now. I can recall when owning any apple product especially a macbook was considered a very "artsy" "alternative" thing to do. Steve jobbs continues to produce products that work the best and everyone loves. It's amazing to believe that Apple actually spends the least on Advertising compared to it's many competitors. The most ironic part about this article is i used Google to search to Apple. Ha!

Super Fans on Twitter
One of the 4 Creative Social Marketing Campaigns included Making a Classic Social. Well, a super fan of Harry Potter has taken this to a new extreme. He has created a fictitious twitter account taking on the persona of Lord Voldermort. He has over 200,000 followers and recently won a "Shorty Award" (twitter awards for content under 140 characters) for his creative tweets.

And over the past few weeks I've seen more and more of these characters popping up on twitter. People are becoming brand activists and taking action to promote what they like.

Awesome video on the power Fb had on connecting victims of the recent tornados.
Here is a video that connects the victims of the recent tornados in the mid west. A lady by the name of Patty Bullion started a Facebook page where people post pictures of items found so that people can claim the lost items that were launched great distances by the tornados. Stories like this show us all the power of connectivity Facebook has.
Really Mom, I'm OK
A post to comfort Moms on Mother's Day.
We talked a lot this semester about how technology keeps us connected. We also talked about privacy issues and sites like spokeo.com that give away valuable personal information. And how Facebook is an issue for parents with young teens. But what if there was now a way for parents to track their kids and their whereabouts (!?!?). This new app for phones allows parents to check where their kids are - this ad is equally creepy.
http://creativity-online.com/work/im-ok-knowing-without-the-nagging/23187
The one positive about this app is that it is a private setting and you don't have to deal with the public social networks - like FourSquare - knowing where you are.
What do you think? Will it catch on? And would kids really use the app?

Cool Osama binladin twitter visual
I found a pretty cool visual on the tweets about Osama Binladin's death on twitter. This picture shows the connections between the people who originally broke the news on twitter. This picture really shows the scale on how people are connected on twitter

Thor
I just found it interesting how all marvel comic movies make so much money. I was readign about the new movie Thor, and it made 66 million its first weekend, beating everything else. I think we are going to come to an age of all marvel comic movies. At least if they keep making the companies this much money.

Big news on Twitter
The recent news of Osama Bin Laden's death has caused a lot of activity on Twitter. The news was actually broken on Twitter before President Obama adressed the nation on TV. Once the address did begin, Twitter was operating at 4,000 tweets per second.
Here's the article showing some of the Twitter posts
Here's the article showing some of the Twitter posts
China's Social Network
Here is a interesting story about China's number one social network site. What makes this interesting is that this site titled Renren is the only social net work site allowed in china. The article explains plans for the new price on buying shares for the new site. However, the real reason I posted this is because i think this site is going to have real power one day. China has enormous reach with its 1.3 billion population. This site has the potential to become the top social net work site in user-ship. So tell me, do you think a site like this could surpass facebook someday?
The Power of New media and social media
The past couple days have been triumphant for Us citizens, especially for those who were directly affected by the 911 attacks. As the much of the world now knows, Osama Bin Landen has finally disposed of, and it seems it only took minutes for the news to spread like wild fire. Here is a video from Sunday night's Phillies vs Mets game. This video shows fans receiving the news of Bin Laden's death from their cell phones, which leads into mass celebration in the stands. This video shows us all how fast we now get our information. In the past these fans would have had to wait until they got home to find out the news of Bin Laden's death.

Fight Back Against Youtube Takedowns
Have you ever gone to youtube to look for your favorite music video or a certain part to a movie, and you click on the video only to see a message saying that the video has been removed due to copyright laws? Yeah, I hate it too, and so does this guy, who offers a method to fight back against copyright takedowns. He talks about some things that were mentioned in class so, enjoy.

delco facedown- whole new level of sharing images and socializing!

This site is insane- not only because it is a blog of people laying facedown in weird situations, but because it started in my neighborhood and is now international. Kids from all over the world post pictures for competetions on the site- all involving laying somewhere facedown. We had some crazy fads when I was in school, but social media definelty has brought kids ideas to a whole new level!
people search
Check out this site- its a people search engine.
When I typed in my name, my location, some relatives, and age came up with a map highlighting where I live!!!
Apparently, if you join the page you can have access to pretty much someones entire life (criminal history, phone number...)
I had a guest speaker in my Senior Seminar class that says he does searches on people he hires- he pays a company that can look at private facebook accounts. My teacher also said she searched herself and there was false information posted, which could possibly be even more harmful then someone gaining access to your real info!

Good news for gamers!
Nintendo is readying the next generation of the Wii console for 2012. The Wii has already chaged the way we play games and the next Wii may change that even more.
The console will apparently be displayed at the next Electronic Entertainment Expo starting June 7th. It is said to utilize the same motion controls but, according to speculation, these will be hand held touch screens.
Here is a link about the announcement.

"Music and technology have grown together like an unstoppable hybrid. Recording artists now have access to a wide array of digital recording software and digital instruments. This, of course, has revolutionized the way music is made. The entire industry has felt these tectonic shifts. Listeners obtain but don't necessarily buy, and there are limitations to the experience of digital files.
Which way do we go from here? Acclaimed producer, musician, and singer RJD2 and Founding Publisher of two.one.five magazine Tayyib Smith will lead this discussion on future of music and technology."

More on Privacy
Check out this NYT's piece on location data from smart phones: Apple and Google Use Phone Data to Map the World. We've talked quite a bit in class about our personal information and how we negotiate privacy in our over-connected lives. However, we haven't touched much on location and I'm wondering what the class thinks about this. This article brings up a number of questions. An excerpt:
"The use of this data by the companies has been under scrutiny since last week, when two technology researchers reported that a file stored on many iPhones and iPads keeps track of all the locations visited by a user. The file is unencrypted and is copied to people’s personal computers when they sync their devices.
The report prompted lawmakers in the United States to ask Apple for explanations. Several European governments said they would open investigations into Apple’s practices. On Monday, two customers sued Apple accusing it of privacy invasion and computer fraud."
On the other hand...
"Mobile advertising could be a $2.5 billion market by 2015, according to Frost & Sullivan, and ads tied to a location are much more lucrative than other ads. "
What is your opinion on broadcasting your location? Is there a break in Institutional Privacy and Social Privacy, related to our class reading? Does the advertising/marketing advantage outweigh the privacy cost?

Karmin Covers
As we watched Rip, and discussed in class, the topic of mixing music and covering songs was talked about much. Here's and example of a cover which has over 5 million views. The group is Karmin covers which consists of the amazing voice of Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan. They are from Boston and went to College together. Recently they were on the Ellen show and got much exposure. Here is their cover of Chris Brown's look at me now

The Lion King REMIX
We recently watched RIP! A Remix Manifesto in class. One of the chapters talked about Disney following the manifesto of building from the past. During the Larry Lessig presentation portion, he displayed how Disney classics such as Snow White, Cinderella, and Steamboat Willie were works of that past that were updated to be made relevant for our culture. I recently came across a video of everyone's favorite Serengeti tale The Lion King, being brightly compared to an older animation called Kimba the white lion. It is evident that The Lion King was a clever remix of an unknown Japanese cartoon. Kimba...Simba.....Tomato...Tomaaaato....Let's not order a lawsuit!

Public Domain Protest Song
Temple Alum Adam McKay (also writer/director of Talladega Nights and Step Brothers) is trying to provoke music consumers get loud, get pissed, and use our right to protest about what has been happening in the pubic domain recently isn't right.
Adam wants the public domain back, so he wrote a song. The Public Domain Protest Song Website launched today. The first lyrics of the song say, "This song aint copywrited. This song aint trademarked either. It's a public domain protest song!" McKay encourages users to remix, rewrite, mash-up and repost the song. But, even more he want musicians and people to get upset about how big corporations are taking advantage of the American people. The lyrics also say, "Profits climb and the jobs get shipped. Bottom 90% gets ripped." He wants people to realize we have the power to have our voices heard, we just aren't using them.
You can read about it at the Huffington Post too. The site launched today and when I visited it, they already had 437 people "like" them on Facebook. When you visit, also comment on how many people like it. Let's see how quickly this site gets major attention. More importantly, spread the word!

Internet Addiction?
Check out this post at the NYT online: Miss G: A Case of Internet Addiction.
An excerpt:
"This kind of Internet use isn’t usefully described as an addiction, even if there’s some shirking of chores and insomnia to it. Fantasy life and real life should, ideally, be brought into balance — but no student who’s making decent grades needs to get off the Internet just because it would look more respectable or comprehensible to be playing chess, throwing a Frisbee or reading a George Orwell paperback. The Internet as Gabriela uses it simply is intellectual life, and play. She’s just the person I’d want for a student, in fact — or a friend, or a daughter."
Do you think you are addicted to the Internet? How do you strike a balance between online and offline engagement?

free mortgage!

That is, if you let Adzookie turn your humble home into a blatant billboard. On the plus side, Adzookie will pay your mortgage as long as you keep your house painted. The downside, its a major eyesore for local community members. However, the manager of Adzookie states how amazed he was to find out just how desperate many families are to keep their heads above water; and this alternative could allow them to keep their houses.
What do you think? Would you turn your house into a giant billboard?!

Speaking of the shift from physical to digital product...
Check out this article: Eminem Lawsuit May Raise Pay for Older Artists
Should individual songs sold online be considered a licenses or a sale?
An excerpt:
"Four years ago, the producers who discovered Eminem sued his record label, the Universal Music Group, over the way royalties are computed for digital music, which boils down to whether an individual song sold online should be considered a license or a sale. The difference is far from academic because, as with most artists, Eminem’s contract stipulates that he gets 50 percent of the royalties for a license but only 12 percent for a sale.

The suit reached its apparent end last week when the Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal, letting stand a lower court’s decision that digital music should be treated as a license. Lawyers and music executives say that few younger artists are likely to be affected by the decision because since the early 2000s record companies have revised most of their contracts to include digital sales among an artist’s record royalties. Eminem’s first contract was signed in 1995.
Many older artists, however, whose contracts predate digital music and have not been renegotiated, stand to profit significantly from the decision."

The Internet tried to Kill Me?!
In class we talked about Neil Postman's Technopoly and how in a technolpoly, cultures seek authorization, find satisfaction, and take orders from technology. I can't help but think of Postman's work while reading this article by Zick Rubin in the New York Times: How the Internet Tried to Kill Me. Rubin's experience clearly reinforces Postman's argument and provides a disconcerting example of what can happen when we look to technology, as opposed to humanity, for answers.
As a culture, how much faith do we put in technology and what is the impact of that action?

standing up to cyber-bullies, facebook takes a stand

cyber-bullying: the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others.
When I first heard of cyber-bullying, last year, I almost couldn't believe my ears. But it makes sense, a bully is a bully- whether they're on the playground or in their virtual community.
In 2006, we saw one of the first cases to really address cyber-bullying- the suicide of Megan Meier. Meier was only 13 years old when she killed herself. The cause? A boy she had been chatting with via MySpace suddenly did not want to be her friend anymore, tellhing her she was a horrible person who should have a horrible life. The boy, it turned out, was no boy at all but rather the mother of a friend of Meier's who had created this fictional character just to 'mess with her.'
Last fall, we saw more effects of cyber-bullying. Even with legislation being passed to fight this phenomenon, the facts remain truly heartbreaking. Tyler Clementi, 18, threw himself off of the George Washington Bridge after a video of him engaging in sexual acts with another man was streamed all over the internet by his room-mate and another student.
Now Facebook, partnered with LGBT, is launching new tools to prevent cyber-bullying from going un-reported and getting out of control. These new tools include things such as a prompt which will ask you if you feel threatened. They also go as far as to give you the option to contact someone who you trust and notify them about the problem. This could be anyone from your older sibling to your teacher. Sort of like an emergency contact stored on your facebook...
The concept is encouraging, almost comforting. But its also, plain weird. (but not in a bad way.) What do you guys think?
I for one have two younger brothers, one of which is six and has already figured out how to use the tab bar to get to Netflix and watch his favorite cartoon movie. Needless to say, I won't be surprised if in a few years he has a facebook too. So, I'm down.
On the same front, legislation has been passed in some states, primarily through the Jessica Logan Bill, that are aimed directly at cyber-bullying. Do you find this shocking? Is it worse to be humiliated through a structure by which things remain permanent? Or is it the same as being bullied in the halls. You tell me.

Online Identity
This is an exert from a PBS special "Kids growing up online". I saw this special and at this part thought about how online identity is a performance and a straddle of the front stage and back stage. This teen girl creates an online identity that totally differs from her normal life where the back stage is on display.
your facebook status: the modern telegram

People all over the world update their statuses everyday. They share everything from what the weather is like, to just getting dumped, the paper they don't feel like writing.. some share less lame things like how they're about to go bungee jumping or hop on a plane to mexico... Usually, I can take it or leave it.
But, something truly facebook-amazing has happened in the past week following the disaster(s) in Japan. All week as I logged onto facebook, friends' statuses popped up in my minifeed updating me about the impact this disaster has had on them- whether they were in Japan or had family there. One said, "i have never seen buildings rock back and forth before. i was stuck on the 7th floor gripping a shaking wall as a big lady held onto me praying and crying. 3 hour walk to get home. i'm safe and sound. x"
Within just one day of the crisis, some 4.5 million status updates mentioned the words 'Japan,' 'tsunami,' or 'earthquake.' Status updates were among some of the first tools people used to get in contact with loved ones.
Additionally, Google launched the Person Finder, containing information regarding some 250,000 people -so far- who were caught up in the quake.
Google.org spokesperson, Jamie Yood, was quoted saying:
"This is by far the biggest response we’ve seen yet, there are several resources that are absolutely critical in the immediate aftermath of a disaster, including food, water, medicines, sanitation and so on, alongside these, information and communication are vital resources too. We think it's fair to say that, in disaster areas, technology can help save lives."
Thankfully, Japan's internet infrastructure has not been damaged by nature's attack.
For a look at how the message spread, check out these maps Facebook has shared based on statuses containing the words 'japan,' tsunami,' and 'earthquake.'
Going to Far?
A different approach on the media in advertising is Guerilla marketing. I personally like this kind of advertising because it is very untraditional and random, usually catching one of guard yet keeping their attention to what is being shown. Guerilla marketing can though take it to far. Here is an article from adage.com which shows a perfect example of this form of advertising. Do you think Guerilla marketing can go to far? Is pushing limits risky?
South by Southwest Festival
This article is about the South by Southwest Festival which is a yearly festival that embraces the new technological achievements and also movies, music and all things technological. But, the quesitons they bring up this year are Do all those connections make you happy? More productive? Or more profound? So basically people are starting to think more and more that the tiem we spend with our technology is making us more anti social. But is it really as we have discussed in class social networking sites such as Facebook are helpiung people create new relationships and spark old ones. Even though we may not have as much interaction face to face anymore we are still interacting with each other in a different way. So in a way we have gotten more social with each other and in a more comfortable way for some people.
Online people can really let themselves go and be who they want, instead fo worrying about what others will think. The attitudes and behavior seem to be more accepted online as well no matter what your race, color or who you really are. This is an interesting article and it will make you think about these things so please read it

Networking Today
I found this article online about what is currently going on in Japan after the explosions of the nuclear plants and the tsunami. However, my post is not about the article but just to give an example of how the world is connected to each other through different Networks. It is to show that we are able to receive the most up to date information from somewhere on the other side of the earth but find out about it in a matter of minutes. The most interesting thing i believe is how the internet has adapted because of its users and has become largely based on user run content today such as blogs, youtube, and even news websites where we are able to put in our own opinion.
I was just reading the article and that is what popped in my mind, if you would like to read the article ill post it on here

Steven Johnson APBA
After reading the excerpt of Everything Bad is Good for You, i searched up the game APBA Johnson mentions about here is the link, APBA. I thought it was pretty interesting and seems still popular.
Social Networking for Japan
Given the recent turmoil that has struck Japan, social networks have taken it upon themselves to help those in need.
Sites such as Facebook and Twitter raise awareness of the current situations happening across the world while those who wish to donate can text their donations (even though these donations can take a month to process).
I know that this is not necessarily a new practice, we saw such compassion with hurricane Katrina and Haiti as well. I just find this to be such a heartwarming project; to reach those who otherwise would be uninformed and to gain support in their efforts to help others and expose the compassion our world has.
Google Circles?

Well, I can't say I didn't expect it.
Google's version of a social networking site, called Google Circle's is expected to be released sometime this May.
So what does Google Circles have that Facebook doesn't?
Well first, Google promises a more private experience than any other social networking site existing. It also allowed members to filter which content is shown, which unlike Facebook will give ease to many users who are worried about privacy infringements.
A blog entitled Read/WriteWeb stated that Chris Messina, the creator of social networking sites, had participated in the creation of Google Circles. Although Google has refused to comment on any rumors of starting a social networking site. Google has tried its hand in the social networking game before, and failed with both Google Buzz and Orkut, so the question now is whether Google Circles will be successful.
What do you think? Could Google Circles be successful? More than Facebook? Would you have an account?

Social Media Plays Vital Role in Reconnecting Japan Quake Victims With Loved Ones
Social Media Plays Vital Role in Reconnecting Japan Quake Victims With Loved Ones
Here is an awesome story how Social Media has connected lost relatives after the massive Earthquake in Japan. The article states that victims of the Earthquake and the Tsunami are re connecting with loved ones through Facebook and Twitter. This is due to that fact that Japans internet services have been unaffected by the catastrophic events that took place in Japan the past week. I find it amazing how Social media has been playing a major role in the lives of a lot of people across the whole world, from the protest in Egypt to the survivors of the earthquake. What are some of your thoughts on this?
Charlie hits 1million on twitter.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEEREWiU5_c From TV to the Internet. Charlie sheen joins twitter and has 1 million followers in just his first 24 hrs of having an account. All because of a couple of interviews displayed by the public media channels on prime time television of his latest antics. Amazing how fast someone can become popular through the social media.
Comedian Louis CK discusses the internet and our generations lack of patience..funny stuff.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk Go to about 1:27 Comedian Louie CK discusses how amazing technology has become. He talks about how our generation does not appreciate the capabilities of technology, especially the internet. I found this funny because its so true. I often get annoyed when my phone or internet connection wont connect for just 15 seconds. I agree with him, we should not take advantage and should appreciate the ability to stay connected the way we do.

COMEDY BUT....More American Workers Outsourcing Own Jobs Overseas
The Onion makes fun of American issues and news, but they do make a great commentary on American mentality.
The Onion- Facebook Stalking
Not sure if anyone watches The Onion but its a great news satire on different topics, this one in particular is moms' Facebook and Twitter stalking their college age kids. I guess I should warn they don't filter language?

My recent trip to Ireland introduced me to the Social Networking Site Bebo. It is really popular in the U.K. and has recently joined up with Facebook, I don't think it has come up in our discussions? It has online gaming, messaging, picture adds, wall posts; advertised as "a popular social networking site which connects you to everyone and everything you care about."
Just thought it was interesting to see if anyone in the U.S. is familiar with it...

The New (and improved?) Family Game Night
In today's class discussion we talked about how video games are replacing the culture of "family game night" This video shows a features a lot of games that you would traditionally play around a table, now they are on a tv screen.
The location has changed but the games are still featured as a way to get families together. This really stuck out to me how video games are changing family culture. The games message is the same, but the medium has shifted. But, to me I don't know if this change is necessarily a good thing. I prefer to play the traditional board game.

Technological change impacts societal change
I recall us talking about Technological Determinism in class. This spoke of how technology (the cause) changes culture (the effect) and how technological change is the single most important source of change in our society. I came across this video earlier this week in senior seminar. This is a look into a time not too far from now where technology has become so advanced, that such things as personal communication, advertising/marketing, and general media can be accessed and maintained with the greatest of ease. It paints a picture of a world where technological advance has changed society for the absolute better and provides an environment of comfort and shows that through this advance, tasking has become so much simpler. The evolution of mankind through the upgrade of technology.

Eminem Becomes Most 'Liked' Living Artist On Facebook
Eminem Becomes Most 'Liked' Living Artist On Facebook
Here is a story about Hip Hop Artist Eminem, who is currently the most liked living person on facebook. Im sure all us "Facebookers" are familiar with the "like" feature. However if your one of those people who just came out from under your rock, the "like" button is a way for people to gauge popularity of all sorts of content on Facebook. With that being said Eminem's artist page is the most liked of any living person in entertainment. The man has racked up 28.8 million likes, only falling behind the late Great king of pop Michael Jackson as the most liked person on the social media juggernaut, Facebook.com. I personally find this news awesome, and ironic at the same time. Being a big hip hop fan i love Eminem, and i believe he will go down as one of the best not only in Rap but in music. However Eminem was not always this beloved. Em received a lot of black lash for his music in the later part of the 90's. People found his obscene lyrics, and graphic music videos very offensive. Knowing this about his past I thought it to be very ironic that Marshall would one day be the most liked person in the world since one could argue Trends of Facebook now Reflect the worlds views. Another reason why i picked this article is that it shows how social media is very much connected to music and other forms of media.
User Control
This is an article I had to read for Pop Culture called the Paradox of User Control by Daniel Palmer. The article argues that "participatory media" and the convenience of the Internet gives an illusion of control to users. I think that Palmer makes really interesting points about Capitalism and about individualism and technology in the article.
Katie Couric explains the Internet
In class we've talked a lot about the beginning of the internet and social networks. Well check out how Katie Couric explains the internet in 1994. Apparently footage never aired - but it doesn't really matter because someone put it on youtube for all to see.
It's amazing to me how quickly the Internet has become so integrated in everything we do that 15 years ago it was impossible to explain what it is.
How you would explain the Internet to Katie Couric in 1994.

More on Facebook & Privacy
I wanted to point you in the direction of this article on Salon: Government Employer asks man for Facebook Login during Job Interview. Read it and consider the following: When does a background check become an invasion of privacy? What would you do if an employer asked for your login and password for your Facebook account? For your email account?

Facebook car?

If you were the first of a million to become a facebook fan of Porsche, you could have had your name written on a car. It's an interesting use of facebook for social marketing, and it's just very cool.

all things philly.
Hello all. So i too decided to change my blog before the semester officially takes off. I love photography but idea of writing about it every week just didn't sit right. So, i picked something I thought would not only be more interesting to me but to everyone in the class as well.
Philly. We live here and we study here, why not...
Check it out at www.prettyfigs.blogspot.com and stay up to date with fun things going on.
B.K. Friendly- "Swing This Way" Ft. Mont Brown (Music Video)
Here is a video from my good Friend B.K. The song is called Swing this way and it Features Mont Brown, another Philly Native. These two bled together their talents to create a song with with awesome verses and a catchy hook. B.K has been in the mix with music for a long time now. He was once the front man for the band "Red is recovery" and has now dived into the world of hip hop. B.K has infused his great voice and lyrical content to create his own unique lane in the world of rap.

post 1. hey guys, Technically this is my second post on this blog but because of previous technical difficulties i think this will be the first post that will actually appear on the class wall. I will make up for the lost post however.
I am making a blog with the basic theme of politics. I will not necessarily make blunt political statements or opinions but rather raise questions or issues that are currently be discussed in the media that could be a topic of conversation or contraversy. Please weigh in your thoughts.
post 2. Much discussion has come about the recent florida judge overturning a part of the healthcare bill deeming it "Unconstitutional" do you agree with any or part of the healthcare reform? would you change anything about it? or would do you see any part of the new bill to be unconstitutional?

Chrysler Eminem Super Bowl Commercial - Imported From Detroit
I thought that this SuperBowl commercial was really interesting in a few different aspects; patriotism, audience, choice of actor....what did everyone else think?

Breaking down Social Network Communiques
Check out this Wired article, Clive Thompson on Secret Messages in the Digital Age. It explores how teens often encode messages within messages posted on social network(ing) websites. danah boyd calls this act social steganography. Social steganography is one example of how people negotiate their relationship with digital media.
An excerpt: "Obviously, one could regard the emergence of youth steganography as yet more depressing evidence of how dangerously overcomplex the web has made teens’ lives. But frankly, I’m kind of awed by the rhetorical sophistication of today’s teens. They are basically required to live in public (you try maintaining friendships without an online presence), but they crave some privacy, too. So they’ve taught themselves to hack language. They hack systems, as well: Boyd has also found teenagers who “deactivate” their Facebook account when they log off so nobody can see their stuff or post comments. Then they “reactivate” it when they want to go back online and interact with friends. Presto: They create a virtual club where they control the operating hours. Color me impressed."
What is your opinion of social steganography? Is it real? Relevant?

Growing Up
http://cbellissimo.blogspot.com/
Hey guys...the topic I decided to cover is "college." Sounds pretty broad but my goals are to start a conversation that involves advice to those entering college, applying to grad schools, and about to enter the "real world" in a not so great economy. I hope to provoke conversation about "what a college degree means in this day and age," and how we can make the best of our time and money spent on higher education! -Courtney Bellissimo
