people search

Check out this site- its a people search engine.
When I typed in my name, my location, some relatives, and age came up with a map highlighting where I live!!!

Apparently, if you join the page you can have access to pretty much someones entire life (criminal history, phone number...)

I had a guest speaker in my Senior Seminar class that says he does searches on people he hires- he pays a company that can look at private facebook accounts. My teacher also said she searched herself and there was false information posted, which could possibly be even more harmful then someone gaining access to your real info!

  1. I think sites like this should be eliminated. Sites like this are a total breach of privacy, and this issue needs to be handled. It is bad enough that someone can get all your personal information, but it is even worse when these sites are posting false information just like Courtney stated.

  2. I agree with Nicky and Courtney, false information given can actually be pretty harmful, especially if someone hiring the person reads the information. These sites need to be available to government or select people only. People can really hurt people if they want to find out things about someone that they should not have access to.

  3. I also agree. It's a shame that the interests of companies and employers is a cause for them to breach privacy. They, however, do not care about our rights and will use the internet to find information on people just because it is available to them and they have the power to.

  5. That's not right at all. All of these sites, especially Spokeo.com are just plain wrong for what they are doing. Luxury Commodity or not, Privacy should be respected to some degree. Don't these people realize that crazy people and robbers/murders can have access to these sites? This isn't just a breech of privacy, its a breech of safety!
